Alice Evans | Sweet Angel You

Not too long ago I met up with local singer/songwriter Alice Evans to collaborate on photos for her upcoming CD release. I met Alice last October while shooting her beautiful wedding on Orcas Island with fellow photographer J. Nichole Smith. Alice's work is tough to describe; sometimes smooth bluesy jazz, sometimes edgy country rock, but always soulful, personal, and real.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of hearing her new edits and themes played out every time I get a new updated disc in the mail. It's so interesting to see how the songs take form and polish over time. I especially liked sitting down for a cup of coffee with Alice to share my feelings and interpretations. I was surprised how close I came to her own experiences; she is a wonderful lyricist.

We had a blast shooting down at Pike Place Market early in the morning, twisting through the back corners of Post Alley. I love the feel of these images. Several different personalities emerge from them and I think that really represents all of the wonderful facets of Alice's music.

Good luck on the album Alice, I can't wait to experience the final result of all your hard work!

Kaitlin + Nathan | Sweet Sweet Vintage

I absolutely cannot tell you how excited I am to share with you these photos from Kaitlin and Nathan's engagement shoot. This is the sort of creative, personal, and stylized shoot I live for. All soon-to-be-brides take notice!

A recent photography BFA graduate from the Art Institute, Kaitlin is also a vintage kind of girl and collected some fabulous props in the weeks leading up to our shoot. She also scheduled her hair and make up trial runs for that morning (very, very smart) which made our session just that much more beautiful.

We did quite a bit of walking during our three hour shoot and I still can't believe they hauled that big beautiful trunk along for the ride! The photos simply would not have been the same with out it. Nathan had terrible allergies and was such a trooper while shooting in the tall grasses! I think it's quite obvious that these two are completely head-over-heels for each other.

Congrats you two, I'm now even more excited to see what you come up with for your fabulous December wedding!!!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

Most of you who know me know that I'm not really one to toot my own horn. Let's be honest, I just wanted to use the word toot...but you know what I mean. I am my very worst critic. I'm not one to yap about my awesomeness unless I'm just straight up being stupid. However, today is one of the days I am going to allow myself to say it: I am a good photographer.

A couple of months back I entered the Emerge Photography Contest hosted by Livebooks and Rangefinder Magazine. Hundreds of photographers submitted ten images each in five categories. Yesterday the winners were announced and yours truly placed 3rd in their Wedding Venue category.

Now, some people may not get excited about 3rd place, however I say a win is a win! :) As my wonderful boyfriend Greg would say, "Let's get an ice-cream cake!" To see my entry portfolio and other category submissions click HERE.

If you have a spare moment, please take the time to pop over to the results page and check out all of the other wonderful winning photographers, there is some really amazing talent out there!

Thanks everyone!!

Heather + John | Married!

Yesterday you were treated to all the fine details of Heather and John's beautiful wedding at Hidden Meadows in Snohomish. Today is wedding day.

We started the day off like most weddings, with a little make up and some hair spray. I was delighted to find that Heather wasn't too paranoid about getting her dress a little dusty before the wedding, so we took advantage of that (and the AMAZING storm clouds) by taking a stroll along some super awesome train tracks. They even walked out on the trestle for me- as I've mentioned before these two are SO cool. We then took the guys out there with their whiskey and had a little fun before grabbing the ladies for some more silliness.

After goofing around a little more with the ladies, it was time to officially get things rolling. Ceremony time! John danced down the aisle like a rockstar, high-fiving and shaking hands the whole way and Heather looked gorgeous being escorted by her father. Their vows were personal and beautiful, as were the readings chosen and read by family and friends.

Two "I dos" and a big kiss later, they were rushing back up the aisle and off to start the reception. There were hilarious toasts, touching remarks, and wonderful words of wisdom before their first dance. The music was outstanding, and not to offend any of my other wedding couples, but probably THE best soundtrack I've heard at a wedding for a long time. Amazing. These two are really into music and John chose all of the wedding tunes personally, and I mean every single song. I am actually tempted to ask for the list so I can kick it in my car whenever I want.

The rest of the evening was filled with dinner and dancing, lots of laughs, and of course the obligatory conga line. After all the mason glasses had been drained and all the cake forks licked clean, their guests lined up outside for a sparkler-fueled send off to an awaiting town car.

We had such a fun time with these two and all of their family and friends! Thank you both for being such a wonderful couple and so incredibly gracious to myself and my assistant, Adam.

I simply can't say it enough, you guys ROCK!!!

H + J | Superfly-Wicked Wedding Details

Let me just start off by saying that Heather and John ROCK. They were married a few weeks back in Snohomish at beautiful Hidden Meadows and I was lucky enough to be there to capture all of the fabulous details of their day.

This particular post is all about those details.

I tell you, there is nothing I love more than a beautiful outdoor country wedding with fabulous details. This wedding had it all... wonderful venue, great couple, fabulous food, and all the gorgeous details setup perfectly by Christine Heidel of Belle Nuit Events. This is the third wedding I've done with Christine, and it is a pleasure every time. There are not enough words to describe how awesome she is, I always know everything will be perfect when she's around. She even had her husband come out to help her set up all those cool lanterns.

One especially unique detail I loved was their wedding cake topper. Those aren't blackbirds, they are crows. Heather and John have a special affinity towards crows. You may think this is weird, however I think it's awesome. Because I myself also love crows, and ravens for that matter, I think they're superfly awesome.

Fun Fact: Did you know that a group of crows is called a murder? That is wicked.

Enough of my blabbing. Check out their details and stay tuned for the rest of their wonderful day!
